As the temperatures begin to cool outside with Summer coming to an end and Fall being on the doorstep, you can use these tips to cool your internal temperature as well. No one likes feeling angry. An all consuming anger is extremely discomforting and has physical negative effects on the brain and body.
Here are some anger management tips to help you cool the heat:
1. Think before you speak
Bite your tongue. It’s easy to get caught up in the heat of the moment and say something you don’t mean. Close your eyes, take a deep breath and maybe walk away for a while. Think first, speak later.
2. Once you’re calm, express your concerns
Once you’ve walked it off, approach the situation calmly. State your concerns in a peaceful manner and avoid an aggressive tone. Be calm.
3. Get some exercise
If you’re not ready for the talk yet, go for a run. Go to the gym. Blow off some steam, get those endorphins flowing and you’ll most definitely approach the situation a lot better.
4. Take a timeout
Yes. A timeout. Anger can build up inside of you and turn you into something you’re not. If you ever feel that way, literally just stop what you’re doing and take a break. Get a coffee, make a cup of tea. Forget about it for a while.
5. Identify possible solutions
Instead of focusing on what made you angry in the first place, think about a possible solution. Anger just makes things worse, and some things are just simply out of your control. What can be done to solve the problem at hand without a raised voice and spiteful words?
Anger is something we all experience. It may seem like someone is never angry, but they are. They just know how to manage that anger, and that’s probably why you don’t see it. These tips will help you to manage your anger in a healthy way, for your own sake and others.
